Description

This three-stanza hymn on the familiar TERRA PATRIS (“This Is My Father’s World”) tune is deeply personal and calls the worship to admit their “unclean” state.

TEXT:

Anoint my head with oil.
Pour freely from your flask.
My chin is bowed, I humbly wait; for cleansing, this I ask.
Anoint my head with oil!
Let me your presence know
as grace cascades in steady streams and blessings overflow.

I am a sheep of yours;
with matted fleece I stand.
Remove the vermin, dirt and briars by your redeeming hand.
Anoint my head with oil
that I might lavished be
with myrrh of healing, mending, hope. Forgiveness spill over me.

O Shepherd loving, kind,
when I have gone astray,
with gentle rod and loving staff restore me on my way.
Anoint my head with oil!
Protect my life from sin
that I may rise from pain and guilt to follow once again.
