“As the Deer Pants” – Hymn

Based from Psalm 42:1, this hymn is set to the GALILLEE tune (commonly sung with “Jesus Calls Us O’er the Tumult”)

The three stanzas are appropriate for any service any time of the year, particularly for times which call for introspection. Communion, Lent, etc.

This short, easy to learn hymn may fill several needy spots in your worship planning.

As a deer pants for fresh water,

So my soul longs after thee.

Lord, I thirst for streams refreshing

Flowing forth from you to me.

Deep within, my life is troubled –

So disturbed, my downcast soul.

Yet my hope is ever with thee –

God who heals me, makes me whole.

Ever with me in my struggles,

When my sadness knows no end.

Still you calm me, still you comfort,

Still you hold me like a Friend.
